Yes that was French. As some of you are aware, we previously had French students from Salvador Allende school in France, working closely with BSix students from the 31st of March to the 2nd of April.

Although their stay was short, we learnt a lot from them, about their school life, teen years in France, and how dissimilar the two educational institute are from each other.

When they arrived, we firstly did an introduction group activity, which was really fun, to find out about the students backgrounds and hobbies. During the activity I met and made new friends. We all bounded so well during the group activity due to some surprising similarities.

Amongst our visitors was a girl named Ella who said that ‘BSix is a quite large college compare to ours, its friendly and really diverse’ another student described London in general as ‘diverse and beautiful city with deep history’

We hope that our visitors enjoyed their visit.

On Thursday 27th Match, the second ‘Student Voice’ conference was held with the five elements of the student voluntary body;  Student Ambassadors, Sports Ambassadors, Student Union, BCitizens, and Learning Advocates. The main purpose of this conference was two fold; firstly to recognise what each group does, and what have they achieved from the beginning of the year; secondly to look at ways to develop and enhance each strand’s work. The conference lasted an 1.30 hrs and this was enough time to learn more about each strand and the students involved.

During the  conference, each student voice group presented a presentation covering their role in the college, their special aims, and what has been achieved this year. This was great in helping us all learn about what everyone else does within the Student Voice. The second part was model on a ‘knowledge cafe’,  a written exercise with each group rotating between tables after set time periods. This was with the exception of one member of each strand who remained fit to their table as an anchor. This allowed the rotating members of each strand to sit at every table and learning from the ‘anchors’ what their role was within their strand of the voice. This allowed the all of us to learn about each strand, and make suggestions for what they could do for the future.

By the close of the conference, the connection between each group increased and we now know more about each strand and their role within the college. We will move forward with an aim to make people more aware of, and involved with,  the Student Voice does and in doing so, taking BSix from ‘good’ to ‘oustanding’ !

Study – Aspire – Achieve

We at the Student Union, hope you all had a restful recuperation during the Easter holidays. This is the last term of the academic year, and there is still lots to do! Exams, and coursework  being the main focus. Don’t forget to get  exam tips and guidance from the excellent staff at the collage!

The Student union has regretfully had lost two key members of the team, the Community engagement officer who was the student Founder of BCitizens, and our Student Union President. Not to worry our new Community Engagement officer Kamila will gracefully step in. As for the Student union president the Vice-President has stepped up to the role for the final term.

This term, the BSeven Team long with us at the Student union, have a whole host of wonderful and exciting cultural events coming up such as; the Caribbean day and Arabian Peninsula day. We also have Disability Awareness Day and of Course on June 26th We have PROM!!!

On Monday 24th March, BSix celebrated Pakistan day. As a multicultural college,  a diverse range of students from different cultures joined in, from participating in the fashion show to doing henna.

During the event, we were treated to Pakistani theme food made in our diversity kitchen, and a calming performance by amazing tabla musicians. Highlights were; the catwalk where students looked amazing in traditional clothes, cultural dances by one of our students, and two of our students  doing beautiful henna for people’s hands in the canteen. Below is a few comments from the students:

“The organisation of Pakistan Day was an enjoyable challenge, and it was nice to see all that was planned come together, resulting in a very successful event. The food was mouth-watering and the mithai, inviting! There were beautiful traditional clothing worn in the catwalk by our students; the dances and tabla were great forms of entertainment. Overall, I felt that the day was rather informative about the Pakistani culture and as a result, I have learnt a great deal about it.” – Umamah Tarvala

As many of you know, a progression took place for our very own BSix students on Friday 7th March. This once in a year event aims to raise aspirations by giving BSix students a chance to explore their options in a wide range of universities and investigate opportunities in the world of work and higher education. This is the main purpose of this major event which took place in the sports hall. A wide range of universities were present such as London South Bank, University of York, Queen Mary University, Oxford University and many more. This gave the students an opportunity to think more about their options. Not only were there universities present in this event, but also jobs, training, work experience and volunteering opportunities including the metropolitan police. So students were also able to apply for different volunteering opportunities and jobs. The speaker of Hackney, Michael Desmond, also attended the event.

We spoke to a few of the students in the college and we ask for their feedback on the progression fair they attended . Muktadir Ahmed, who is currently studying IGCSE’s and A-levels said ‘Progression fair was amazingly helpful for me, as i am a student from abroad i came to know a lot of things about different universities and different things about further education’. This event is especially made for students who are looking for a full time career and are aiming to finish college and move on to an amazing university which offers their course. Year 2 student, Habibullah Salimee , who studies BTEC Level 3 in Applied Science said ‘It was great and I had a good time there, getting to know different universities, finding information about different universities and what courses they offer’. As you can see the progression fair was a success and benefited people in many ways. We hope it will have the same impact on students for the years to come. To students who attended this fair we wish you all the best and good luck with your exams.

Chemistry ALevel is not an easy subject or any ALevel for that matter but if you try hard, you will definitely get the grades you deserve..

Marco is a Chemistry teacher at Bsix and he believes his students are working hard. The names of the people who are performing extremely well are Melody, Shayo, Sharif and Shrunel. He said “they use very good tactics when they are revising which is evident in the grades they get in things like practise tests”

I interviewed Sharif to see the secret behind his success and he notified me that the reason why he performs well is because he does practise papers.  He recently achieved a grade B in the January exams. He said that by doing these past papers, you will be able to see the way in which examiners will phrase questions and get used to answering the questions in a certain style. One paper every three days helps him to keep the Chemistry fresh in his mind.

Sharif said his inspiration to do Chemistry came from the idea that he wants to be able to go to Africa and make use of the chemical resources there.

Sharif’s advice to all the prospective students who would like to do Chemistry is:

“If you want to succeed in Chemistry; don’t sleep”…

 

 

BE MOTIVATED GUYS!

As soon as I tell someone that I do Anthropology as one of my A-Level subjects, I get that ‘huh?!’ look! It isn’t anything difficult to understand in terms of what the subject is about.  Anthropology is a humanities subject in the same way that Psychology and Law and History are. It is a subject which helps you to understand human nature and how cultures differ and are similar globally.

I spoke to my Anthropology teacher, Harriett and asked her to inform me on the people who were doing well in the subject and she told me Radina was showing amazing progress in the subject.

Asking Rdina how she manages to be an outstanding student, she told me that she is passionate about the subject and she can relate to the world when she writes her essays. For those of you wishing to do Anthropology one sweet day, her advice was :

It is a subject that opens your eyes to see the world rather than being objective.

Don’t look at this blog and think that because you don’t do Anthropology, it doesn’t apply to you. What I learnt from Radina is that if you are passionate about something then you have to perservere to achieve it.

IF RADINA CAN DO IT, THEN SO CAN WE ALL!!

Bsix has very motivated students. Every week be expecting a blog with how students work hard as recognized by their teachers.

I spoke to Lois Lovell, an AS Biology teacher and asked her which of her students has made the greatest improvement and striving to achieve the grades they require to proceed to their next stage in life. She told me that two thirds of her class were putting in so much effort and she was happy. Out of them she told me that Ilhan was the student who had made the most drastic improvement.

When I spoke to Ilhan I asked her:

>How do you revise for Biology?

She said that she wakes up at 3am; read the Biology book and does questions and checks the answers. At 3am, she feels the most focused because nobody is there to distract her.

>What is it about Biology that interests you?

She replied me ” I like Biology.  I mean I dont have to do it for medicine but I am interested to learn about the human body and plants and how world works”
